Monday, July 1st, 2013 marks the first day of the rest of my life. Since my first year in podiatry school, I have been planning and preparing to open this practice.

I want to simply take a moment to thank all of the mentors who have spent time teaching, the friends who have encouraged and attempted to make the strenuous life of residency and school more enjoyable, and my family who has always believed in me and my goals.

I especially want to thank my wife, Brittany. She has carried me on her shoulders for seven years. I would never have been able to do this without her.

The decision to open a practice on my own was not a difficult one to make. I have surrounded myself with extremely intelligent people to help make this practice exactly what the community needs. Things have happened in the last year to set this plan into action.

I want to tell of Sir William Robert Anderson, who commanded a submarine in the Korean war. He later became the first to take a submarine under the North Pole. He carried a tattered card in his back pocket with the following quote, “I believe I am always divinely guided. I believe I will always take the right road. I believe God will always make a way, even when there is no way.”

The motto, “A Step Ahead” came to me while in Mexico, walking up and down mountain sides outside of Mexico City. It was hot, I was far from home and struggling to keep a positive attitude. I kept thinking to simply keep putting one foot in front of the other. During this journey through school I have repeatedly told myself, “you’re almost there, keep going, one step ahead”. My life has, in essence, become a step by step movement towards every goal. At Foot and Ankle Specialists of The Woodlands, my personal goal is to help every patient take a better, healthier step onward by providing quality of care to the best of my ability.
